CycleWight Plans Organised Rides To Highlight Newport Routes

CycleWight, the Island’s cycling advocacy group, has joined forces with Newport High Street Heritage Action Zone, to support people who would like to cycle into Newport from Carisbrooke or Gunville.

Working together they have identified a number of cycling greenways which take riders on quieter roads and shared paths.

To showcase these routes, Cyclewight has organised three guided rides starting in Gunville to take place on the following dates:

  • Saturday February 26 at 2pm, starting from the Carpetright Car Park off of Taylor Road
  • Sunday March 13 at 10am, starting from the duck pond in Priory Farm Lane
  • Thursday March 24 at 10am, starting from the Carpetright Car Park off of Taylor Road

These guided rides will not only showcase the routes, but provide the best practise whilst cycling to maximise your enjoyment and safety.

To enable anyone to participate, CycleWight have made additional arrangements which include:

  • "Dr. Bike" sessions provided by Nick from Island Bike Works to be on-hand for a free bike check and minor repairs
  • Complimentary cycle hire provided by Wight Cycle Hire if you do not have access to a working bike

Anyone interested in coming along or would like additional information on the guided rides, can contact CycleWight at [email protected] or join the community Facebook Group @carisbrookeandgunvillegreenways to be kept up to date on this community project.
