Cruise Ship 'Borealis' Set To Sail Into Cowes

Fred Olsen’s 'Borealis' cruise ship will sail into Cowes tomorrow (Wednesday) for its maiden voyage.

Borealis is the company’s newest addition to their fleet.

Bearing a name that previously bestowed an Olsen-owned vessel in the 1940s, and inspires thoughts of the Aurora Borealis, the ship Borealis connects with, and represents, the cruise line’s founding family’s history and Norwegian heritage.

The call, at anchor, forms part of its maiden season and continues the trend for cruise ships to call at, or near Cowes, with more ships scheduled for the rest of the year.

Martin Lister, Head of Destination Experience and Itinerary Planning, said:

“This summer we have had a real opportunity to celebrate our British Isles as fantastic holiday destinations. We are really pleased and excited to be call to Cowes in August, for the first time in our company’s history.

“We have timed the visit just right, to allow our guests to observe part of the famous Cowes Week, one of the most famous sailing regattas in the world, from our vantage point anchored by the harbour. It is sure to be a memorable day!”

The visits are said to be part of the Island’s economic recovery post COVID and beyond, either by raising awareness of Cowes as a Global destination port, or by visitors from the cruise ships bringing revenue into the town.
