Crews Tackle Flat Fire In Bembridge

Firefighters are tackling a fire in a flat in Bembridge tonight (Thursday), with one person being rescued from the burning building.

Crews were called to Crossway, off Egerton Road, at 8.43pm to reports of a blaze in a first floor property.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that one casualty has been rescued from the upper floor.

Paramedics from the ambulance service are on scene, along with police.

Crossway has been closed.

Firefighters from Sandown, Shanklin, Cowes, Newport and Ryde are on scene, along with the Aerial Ladder Platform.

*UPDATED 10.10pm

*The Coastguard Rescue Helicopter has landed at Bembridge Airport, where the casualty is expected to be airlifted to hospital in Southampton.
