Coronavirus: Wightlink 'Reviewing' FastCat Service As Changes Made To Yarmouth Route

Wightlink's Lymington to Yarmouth car ferry route will change to a two-hourly service from Monday (9).

The ferry firm says it is using one ship on the route, following the Government’s announcement of restrictions on non-essential travel to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The company says it is 'reviewing demand' for its Portsmouth to Fishbourne car ferries and FastCat passenger service during the pandemic.

Until a decision has been made, scheduled services are running normally.

Wightlink Chief Executive Keith Greenfield says:

“Many customers have already cancelled their bookings and fewer people are expected to use the service during the lockdown.

“We are sorry if this disrupts the travel plans of some of our customers, but we have plenty of capacity on our routes to carry everyone who needs to travel at this time and will, of course, continue to prioritise freight and other essential supplies for the Island.”

Wightlink says it is working closely with the Isle of Wight Council during the COVID crisis.

While it is permitted to cross the Solent for work, education, medical appointments and other essential reasons as outlined in official Government advice it is not allowed to travel for non-essential reasons such as holidays, shopping or to visit a second home.
