Coronavirus: Three Positive Tests Recorded On Isle Of Wight

Three new people have tested positive for coronavirus on the Isle of Wight today (Wednesday).

It takes the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 6,798 according to official figures.

It comes as St Mary's Hospital announced more than 17,000 COVID vaccines have been administered on the Island, as previously reported.

Yesterday (Tuesday) another person died in a care home on the Isle of Wight, after testing positive for coronavirus. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) data shows the death came in the week to April 16.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 137 deaths in the community on the Island.

There are also major changes to community coronavirus testing for Islanders without symptoms.

As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, from Friday (30), Isle of Wight Council sites are closing in Yarmouth, Cowes, Sandown and Ryde.

Instead, many local pharmacies across the Island will become the go-to places for people without symptoms to access free supervised testing on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, almost 70 per cent of the adult population in England now have COVID antibodies, the latest figures suggest.

An estimated seven in 10 adults (68.3%) in private households were likely to have tested positive for coronavirus antibodies in the week to April 11, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
