Boris Johnson has announced that England will return to the tiered system of restrictions when lockdown ends next week (December 2).

Among some of the new measures, the Prime Minister said the 10pm curfew for pubs and bars will end.

In Tiers 1 and 2, last orders will be at 10pm and places should close at 11pm.

Non-essential shops, gyms, leisure facilities and hairdressers will reopen across the country, outdoor sports can resume and collective worship will be allowed

Weddings will also be allowed.

A limited number of fans can return to sports stadiums in Tier 1 and Tier 2.

Boris Johnson said there will be a 'six-week surge of testing' in Tier 3 areas.

According to Sky News, the tiers will be toughened after December 2.

Tier 1 - People should work from home where possible

Tier 2 - Alcohol only served with substantial meals

Tier 3 - Indoor entertainment, hotels and all forms of hospitality will close except for takeaways

Authorities will also be given more powers to close down businesses not complying with coronavirus regulations across the country.

The Government is also seeking to 'end automatic isolation' for contacts of Covid-19 patients by piloting a testing programme in Liverpool.

People there who have come into contact with coronavirus patients will be tested every day for a week, they will only need to self-isolate if they themselves test positive for the virus.

It's hoped this will be rolled out across England by January.

The PM said the government is working with the devolved administrations to come up with a plan for Christmas.

He said:

"I can't say that Christmas will be normal this year.

"We all want some kind of Christmas, we need it, we certainly feel we deserve it. But what we don't want is to throw caution to the winds and allow the virus to flare up again, forcing us all back into lockdown in January.

"So to allow families to come together, while minimising the risk, we're working with the devolved administrations on a special time-limited Christmas dispensation, embracing the whole of the United Kingdom."
