Coronavirus: More Than 105,000 First Jabs Given On Isle Of Wight

More than 105,000 people have had their first Covid vaccination on the Isle of Wight.

Efforts are now concentrating on getting more young adults to take up the jabs.

Director of public health for the Island, Simon Bryant, said at the Isle of Wight Council’s health and wellbeing board that the highest rates of infections on the Island are being seen in the 20 to 24 population and that is where the promotion of the vaccine is being targeted.

Social media platforms, Snapchat and Tik Tok, are going to be used to reach that age group, Mr Bryant said.

Figures from NHS England released today (Thursday) show in the last week, up to July 25, a further 424 first and 1,405 second doses were given through hubs, centres and walk-in clinics across the Island.

It takes the total number of vaccinations dished out 197,223 — 105,410 first and 91,823 second.

Of the Island’s 18-plus population, 89.2 per cent have had their first vaccine while 77.9 per cent have had both doses.

Of the Island’s entire population, 71.5 per cent have had their first jab and 62.2 their second.

Using population estimates from the National Immunisation Management System, which records the vaccination data, see what percentage of each Island age population have had their first vaccine:

  • 18 – 24: 65.8 per cent
  • 25 – 29: 66.2 per cent
