Coronavirus: Daily Cases Rise By Eight On Isle Of Wight

Case numbers have risen by eight on the Isle of Wight today (Friday), according to official figures.

Data from Public Health England shows there have now been 956 cases recorded on the Isle of Wight since the pandemic started.

As previously reported today, a man in his 70s died at St Mary's Hospital after contracting the virus.

Because case numbers on the Isle of Wight remain low, the Island has been placed in Tier 1 restrictions when the lockdown is lifted next week.

The Island joins just two other areas in England - Cornwall and the Scilly Isles in Tier 1 on Wednesday.

Boris Johnson is said to be facing a rebellion, with more than 70 backbenchers reportedly unhappy with the restrictions they have been placed in.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Isle of Wight Council told Isle of Wight Radio in an exclusive interview, "now is not the time to visit the Isle of Wight".

But from next Saturday the FastCat will be up and running again, with Wightlink's weekend Yarmouth to Lymington sailings also reinstated, as previously reported.
