Coronavirus Case Confirmed At Barton Primary School

Parents of children at Barton Primary School have received messages this morning confirming that a positive COVID-19 test result has been identified within the school community this morning (Saturday).

The message, sent via text to parents of children at the school, states that the school is working with Public Health England and that the school will be providing more information shortly.

It hasn't yet been made clear as to which 'bubbles' or year groups within the school are affected.

The message, sent by the headteacher, Mark Snow, said:

"We can confirm there has been a positive COVID-19 test result in our school community.

"We are being directly by Public Health and more information will follow shortly.

"Please look at your emails, facebook page, and school website."

Yesterday (Friday), three schools announced positive cases, including Cowes Enterprise College, Island Innovation Sixth Form Campus, and Binstead Primary School.

Isle of Wight Radio has contacted the Isle of Wight Council for a comment.

Barton Primary School said it has contacted the parents of children who need to take action.

A letter to parents posted on the school's website said:

"Dear Parents,

"We have been made aware of a member of our school community who have tested positive for COVID 19.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be eassured that for most people,  coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

"The small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

"The school remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well."
