Coastguard Call Out To Shanklin Deemed 'False Alarm'

Reports of people in difficulty in the water prompted a coastguard call out to Shanklin this afternoon (Wednesday).

Rescue teams from Ventnor and Bembridge, as well as Shanklin lifeboat, were alerted to Small Hope Beach.

They received the call at around 1.15pm.

Two people were said to be in trouble, although it has since been deemed a 'false alarm with good intent'.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said:

"Search and rescue units have carried out searches at the location and continue to do so.

"At this time, no people have been found to be in any difficulty."
