Changes To Isle Of Wight's Riverside Vaccination Centre

The Isle of Wight's coronavirus vaccination centres at the Riverside Centre will be reducing its opening hours from next week.

Currently, the Solent NHS Trust site runs sessions 8am - 8pm seven days a week.

From Monday (7) it will continue to operate from 8am - 8pm, but only on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Sites in Portsmouth and Southampton will also be reducing opening hours.

The Riverside Vaccination Centre in Newport will continue to offer walk-ins and appointments for:

  • First and second (after 12 weeks of the first dose) vaccinations for young people aged 12-15, as well as 16 and 17-year-olds.
  • First and second (after 8 weeks of the first dose) vaccinations for people aged 18 and over.
  • Booster vaccinations to people over the age of 16 (3 months after second vaccination).
  • A 3rd dose and booster dose (4th dose) for people who are immunocompromised.

The vaccination offer will continue to be complemented by pop-up clinics that the Solent NHS Trust is running at venues across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, giving people opportunities to receive their first, second or booster vaccination.

Angela Anderson, Solent NHS Trust's Clinical Director of COVID-19 vaccinations, said:

"Our mass vaccination centres have been a great success - delivering over 750,000 vaccines to our communities since we first opened the doors to the public over a year ago.

"Our focus is now to offer more people the opportunity to take up the vaccines through our roving clinics. These sessions are proving to be an effective way to reach out to areas where vaccination take-up is lower.

"The COVID-19 vaccines are the best way to protect yourself and others from becoming seriously ill or have long-term effects from the virus. We continue to open up even more opportunities for people to get vaccinated - it is never too late to receive the vaccine."

A pop-up clinic will be taking place on Tuesday (8) at The Heights Leisure Centre, Lake between 5pm- 8pm.

Vaccinations are also available at walk-in clinics provided by GP practices, outreach clinics, hospital hubs and pharmacies.
