Changes To Council Services Over The Festive Period

The Isle of Wight Council has announced changes to its services over Christmas.

Most of the council’s operations will remain open until 4.30pm, Friday December 24.

Services will then cease until the following Wednesday (December 29) through to Friday (December 31).

After closing for New Year’s Day, services will reopen as normal on Tuesday January 4.

Below is a list of Council timetables for the festive period.

Floating bridge

  • Christmas Eve — 5.15am to 12.30am (next day)
  • Christmas Day — 8am to 2pm
  • Boxing Day — 7am to 12.30am (next day)
  • 27 December — 5am to 12.30am (next day)
  • 28 December — 5am to 12.30am (next day)
  • 29 December — 5am to 12.30am (next day)
  • 30 December — 6.30am to 12.30am (next day)
  • New Year’s Eve — 5am to 1.30am** (next day)
  • New Year’s Day — 6.30am to 12.30am (next day)
  • 2 January — 5am to 12.30am (next day)
  • 3 January — 5am to 12.30am (next day)
  • 4 January — 5am to 12.30am (next day)

** Last crossing from East Cowes 1.10am, last crossing from West Cowes 1.20am.

Other services

Recycling and waste collection

This year there will be no day changes or alterations to the household waste and recycling collection service.

Wheeled bins/gull-proof sacks and food waste should be put out by 7am on the day of collection or they will not be collected.

The bulky waste and free re-use collection service will also be available on weekdays as normal over the festive period.

Between Monday (December 20) and Friday (January 14), you can leave out extra polystyrene to the side of your black bin or black gull sack for collection, provided it is in clear or white sacks and contains no other items. Any excess black sacks will not be collected.


Revenues, Benefits, Parking Services, Blue Badges and Payments Team

Online applications remain available for council tax/local council tax support/housing benefit and Blue Badges.
