Challenge To Celebrate Reopening Freshwater's West Wight Sports And Community Centre

Solent Swim 2019

The West Wight Sports And Community Centre is hosting a fundraiser today (Wednesday) to celebrate its fast-approaching reopening date.

The site in Freshwater has been closed for 118 days due to coronavirus, before it plans to start welcoming visitors from July 25.

As previously reported, the site in Freshwater received royal recognition for its work throughout the pandemic.

From 7am today, Islanders will be hoping to run, row and cycle 118 miles and lift 1,118kgs throughout the day.

The event on the playing fields will be supervised by the Centre's fitness instructors.

Manager of the Centre Clare Griffin told Isle of Wight Radio:

'Anyone can join in, people need to book a slot by ringing the centre. We want to raise some cash but mainly we want to get people together again doing some exercise and having some fun.'

You can call the centre to book a slot on 01983 752168.
