Chale Show Cancelled AGAIN After Lockdown Extended

Chale show

The Chale Show has been cancelled for another year because of coronavirus.

Organisers of the event say they are both 'disheartended and disapointed' and have apologised to those affected.

Instead it will return in 2022 on 6 and 7 August.

Andrew Woodford, Show Manager, has told Isle of Wight Radio:

'Following the latest change to the Government Covid Roadmap, it is with deep regret that we must cancel The Chale Show for a second year running.

'An event of this size takes a huge amount of time to plan, make safe, and build. Chale Show prides itself on being staged and managed by volunteers, many of whom are understandably nervous about the ongoing pandemic situation, and we respect their wishes to remain as safe as possible at this time.

'The show is run on behalf of Chale Horticultural Society and its trustees to raise charitable funds, of which it has an excellent track record. Unfortunately, with the current uncertainty on the lifting of restrictions, it is not sufficiently possible to ensure a good financial outcome this year which could jeopardise the future of the show.

'It remains unclear exactly what rules and regulations will still be in effect after the 19th July and with that leaving only 10 days until the opening of the event, it would simply be impossible to safeguard our volunteers, traders and visitors due to the layout of the show.

'We are both disheartened and disappointed with this decision and wish to offer our sincerem apologies to all those affected as we understand the knock-on effects for individuals, businesses and charities will be huge. We have had little to no support or assurance from the government despite requests for clarity and guidance however our local authority have worked hard to support us where they can despite often finding out information on the same day as the general public.'
