Poundland in Newport has vowed to 'look out' for Islanders in need by providing extra support for the Isle of Wight Foodbank.

The store, based in the High Street, has pledged to provide food packages for the local community.

All staff are asking Islanders to do is donate a food item, and then they will match it.

It comes as the Isle of Wight Foodbank could face a 61% increase in Islanders using the service, as previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio.

Kim Masterton - manager of the Newport, Isle of Wight store - said:

"We know its important to keep looking out for one another. That's why we are sending food packages to support families in our local communities.

"Please join us - if you donate a food item, well donate another one."

The scheme will run from today (Monday) until Sunday (8).

To get involved pop into the Newport store and have a chat with members of staff.
