Burst Main Leaves Thousands Of Ryde Residents Without Water

Thousands of residents in Ryde are without water this afternoon (Friday).

A burst water main at Smallbrook is the cause.

Water can be seen flooding into Smallbrook Stadium.

Southern Water engineers are on site due to ongoing safety improvement works at Smallbrook junction.

The utility firm said:

"We are aware of a burst in PO33 4BE.

"Our team is on the way to investigate and make the necessary repairs. Sometimes repairs take longer than we’d like, as we need to complete numerous checks and tests.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we thank you for your patience."

Isle of Wight Radio has asked for an update.

A Southern Water spokesperson told Isle of Wight Radio engineers are on site and are investigating:

"We are sorry to customers in Ryde who may be experiencing water supply interruptions.

"Contractors were undertaking planned works last night on a water main which has resulted in a burst in the area near to Smallbrook Stadium this afternoon.

"Engineers are now onsite investigating and have turned off pumps feeding the main; resulting in some homes in the Ryde area experiencing loss of pressure and supply.

"We are trying to temporarily rezone water supplies to bring those properties back into supply while we look into repairing the pipe.

"For the latest updates, customers should check our website, facebook and twitter pages – which we will update when we have further information."

A Southern Water statement said:

”We apologise to customers in Ryde who may be experiencing water supply interruptions as a result of a burst water main, and are sorry for any disruption to customers’ evenings it has caused.

“Our engineers are now onsite and our priority is to reroute water supply around the burst to ensure the vast majority of homes have water again this evening.

“We have set up bottled water collection points at Ryde Gold Club and Smallbrook Stadium for those wishing to collect water, and will be delivering to customers on the Priority Service Register, as well as a very small number of homes for whom the rezone will not return supply.

“If you or anyone you know requires support please call 0330 3030368.“
