Isle Of Wight Council Chairman Reveals Chosen Charity For 2022

The chairman of the Isle of Wight Council has chosen South Wight Area Youth (SWAY) as her charity for 2022.

Council Chairman Claire Critchison revealed the Brighstone-based charity will be receiving help to raise funds.

Speaking at the chairman's reception last week, she paid tribute to the South Wight Charity which provides support and social activities for young people.

She said:

"They are a wonderful resource for young people in the rural areas.

"I will be holding fundraising events over the next year starting with a garden party on Saturday, 21 August at Bevois Farm, Niton.”

The charity was established in 2014 and runs regular meet-ups, activities and volunteering opportunities for young people in the area.

Joanna Richards, SWAY's chair of trustees said:

"SWAY are progressing so well with the fundraising for the Community Hub that we are in the last stages prior to the build.

"We are looking forward to providing a fabulous shop, café and meeting rooms in Chale for the whole of the South Wight.”

Andy Dorning, lead youth worker, said:

"SWAY are excited to be chosen as the Isle of Wight chairman's charity for the year. It will give us the opportunity to raise our profile and tell people about the work we do.

"Our aim is to give hope and focus for the youth and families of South Wight. We are passionate about getting young people together, giving them opportunities to grow, work, play and fulfil their potential."
