Blue Watch Firefighters Are Expected To Turn On Christmas Tree Lights

Christmas Tree

Blue watch firefighters have been busy organising their annual decorative operation by putting their Christmas tree atop their drill tower.

Islanders were reportedly upset that the 40-year long tradition was not upheld last year.

But today (Monday) it is expected to light up the Newport skyline and it's hoped will look bigger and better than ever!

Because of coronavirus, there will be no switch-on ceremony tonight.

The team have also added an extra touch as a way of thanking the NHS for their work during the pandemic.

Contributions have been made by the Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council, Thompson Plant and Garden Centre/Shide Christmas Trees, Ace Scaffold, Moreys timber merchants and Spencer Rigging Ltd.

Ryde Fire Station has also put up their Christmas tree at the industrial estate in the town.
