Bert Fallout Revealed By Island Roads

Island Roads dealt with around 20 call-outs during Storm Bert over the weekend – the majority of which were for fallen or dangerous trees.

There was one report of flooding on Whitwell Road where flood warning board were placed out and the ongoing issue of fallen debris in Pyle Street, Newport.

Island Roads responded to reports of fallen or dangerous trees or branches at Beatrice Avenue, East Cowes, Calbourne Road, Newport, Ashey Road, Ryde, Godshill Road, Whitwell, Kite Hill, Wootton, Arctic Road, Cowes, Rectory Lane, Gatcombe (removed by members of the public), Carpenters Road, Brading, Carters Road, Ryde and Blackwater Shute, Arreton, Freshwater Road, Shalfleet, Bedbury lane, Freshwater and Newport Footpath 218, near the old football club

There was also a fallen non-lit Christmas tree in Brannon Way, Wootton.

There was flooding on Alverstone Cycle track while a fallen tree closed Park Road – Sation Road, Cycle Track at Wootton.

A spokesperson for Island Roads said:

"We would like to thank our staff and contractors for their work keeping the network safe and accessible in what were some difficult conditions."
