A body has been found following a major search for a missing kayaker near the Isle of Wight.

Bembridge RNLI were involved in the nine-hour search, close to Selsey, on Saturday (12), into the early hours of Sunday (13) morning.

The lifeboat team were called out to reports of a two person kayak capsizing half a mile south of Selsey Lifeboat Station.

One kayaker was recovered safely by a jet ski but the other, who was wearing a red buoyancy aid, was missing.

Apparently the two kayakers had become separated after swimming for 90 minutes.

An update posted yesterday (Sunday) said a body found near Selsey is believed to be that of missing kayaker Shane Davies.

Bembridge RNLI said:

"It is with great sadness that we have to report the follow-up news that a body was found early this morning (Sunday 13th June) by a local fishing boat not far from Selsey. Local Police report that it is believed to be Shane Davies, the missing kayaker.

"Our thoughts are with Shane's family at this incredibly difficult time."
