Bembridge Lifeboats Called Out During Busy Day On The Water

Both Bembridge RNLI Lifeboats were launched yesterday (Saturday).

RNLB Norman Harvey was launched at 5.15pm at the request of Solent Coastguard to assist two paddleboarders who had been reported as having difficulty getting back to St Helens shore.

The report had been for two females without lifejackets on one board.

At 5.30pm the Lifeboat spotted two females walking along the beach near the old Garland Club who they identified as the two paddleboarders.

The vessel then escorted the duo to meet up with one of the paddleboarders' husbands who had driven to escort them home.

The lifeboat was subsequently re-tasked to locate and assist a small rowing dinghy that had been reported as being in difficulty between Yaverland and Whitecliff Bay.

En route a request was made for a second lifeboat team to assist in the search.

Launched at 6.30pm, the second vessel was tasked to conduct a line search from the West Princessa to Culver and then step offshore.

Having completed further in-shore searches without seeing anything of concern, the Norman Harvey was stood down at 7.55pm and returned to Lane End.
