Arrests After Baseball Bat And Knife Incident In Newport

An altercation allegedly involving a baseball bat and a knife resulted in two people being arrested outside Newport Police Station.

Hampshire Constabulary says two men detained have been released on conditional bail.

Officer saw an altercation take place outside the station, on Newport High Street in the early hours of yesterday (Tuesday) morning.

A spokesperson for the force said:

"A 25-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife, blade or sharp pointed article in a public place and causing actual bodily harm. He has been granted conditional bail until 14 September while officers continue their enquiries.

"A 34-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, namely a baseball bat, and was granted conditional bail until 14 September while enquiries continue."
