Arrest After “Violent” Attempted Robbery In Sandown

One person has been arrested following an attempted robbery in Sandown, which allegedly saw two men threatened and assaulted.

A car travelled the wrong way through roadworks, before crashing into a a temporary road sign on Avenue Road at around 10.20pm last night (Saturday), say police.

Three men, travelling in a red Vauxhall Meriva, are said to have got out and demanded two men hand over their watches, backpack and e-scooter.

Officers say they then went on to assault them and they suffered minor injuries.

Nothing was taken. And they then drove off in the same red Vauxhall Meriva.

Avenue Road was shut for a time.

A 25 year-old man from Shanklin has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and possession of a Class A drug.

Officers say they’re investigating the “violent incident” and are asking for witnesses to come forward.
