Help is needed to locate a satellite tag which fell off an endangered shark and washed up off the coast of the Isle of Wight.

French conservation and research programme, Apecs, placed the tag on a Porbeagle Shark off the north coast of Brittany.

The Porbeagle Shark is commonly found in UK waters and usually stays in deeper offshore waters.

In the western North Atlantic they are classed as Endangered, and in the eastern North Atlantic and the Mediterranean they are Critically Endangered.

Apecs attached the tag to track the shark's movements, to better understand and raise awareness of the species, with a view to conservation.

Since yesterday (Tuesday), the tag has been stranded on the Island. It's estimated it is currently in the Compton Beach area, near Freshwater (coordinates: 50°39.889N / 001°28.840W).

In order to recover the tag's data, it first needs to be located.

If you manage to find the tag, you can contact Apecs by emailing [email protected].
