Another Month - Another Grounding Of The Floating Bridge

Floating Bridge

The Isle of Wight's Floating Bridge will be out of service again today (Wednesday).

As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, the Isle of Wight Council said it will be off this morning for planned maintenance.

A spokesperson said:

"Works undertaken will ensure noise levels are mitigated and will include works to replace the damaged ‘shoe’ on the Cowes prow and replacement of the cheek plates."

A foot passenger launch will be in place instead from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

The Cowes to East Cowes route has been out of action five times in a month.

The list of reasons includes planned maintenance to the vessel’s hydraulic pipes, and 'unexpected issues'.

There is also talk that the vessel could be off for six months as part of plans for a long-term fix.

The Isle of Wight Council has submitted a ‘substantial claim’ as part of legal action against the boat's manufacturers.
