Another Coronavirus Case Confirmed At Isle Of Wight College

Another case of coronavirus has been confirmed at the Isle of Wight College.

Staff, students and parents/carers notified yesterday (Thursday).

A small number of students have been asked to self-isolate.

Debbie Lavin, principal, said:

“We understand the anxiety this news will cause our college community and I want to reassure staff, students and parents that we have stringently followed government guidelines and continue to work closely with the public health team.

“It is important that we continue to provide education on-site to our students and in order to maintain this, I cannot stress enough the absolute necessity of maintaining social distancing at all times.”

The college says it immediately contacted the relevant public bodies and implemented 'robust plans' for dealing with a confirmed case, alerting Public Health England, the Isle of Wight Council and unions.

The chair of governors, Dr Nicholas England, was informed immediately, according to the college.

It says the management team are effectively implementing agreed procedures and it is confident the college remains safe for staff and students.

It is the second COVID case to have been confirmed at the college. Use the interactive map tool to read about the first positive result.
