An 88-year-old woman has raised more than £1,000 for Sight for Wight.

As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, Sheila, who is a member of the Island charity, took part in the Captain Tom Challenge.

She touched her toes 100 times a day during May and raised £1077.29 for the charity that supports visually impaired Islanders and their families.

Sheila Said:

“It was hard at first but now I can’t stop I am still carrying on every day”

Lisa CEO told Isle of Wight Radio:

“Captain Tom inspired people across the whole world with his pledge to raise vital funds for the NHS.  Now this same inspiration is spreading across more and more people in doing their own challenge to raise money for local charities.  We cannot thank Sheila enough for completing her challenge and are so proud she hasn’t stopped either.

"Her challenge also inspired her daughter to bake 100 cakes in May and close family friend Linda to make handmade cards for Sight for Wight which we then personalise with braille or large print for our members.  With girt aid donations still to be claimed the total raised is still climbing, thank you sincerely for your efforts”

Linda has also made some stunning handmade cards which she has donated to Sight for Wight, the charity has customised the cards for members with Braille and large print.
