36°C Recorded In Carisbrooke As Level Three Heat Alert Issued For Isle Of Wight

A level three heat-health alert is in place for the Isle of Wight as temperatures hit 36°C in Carisbrooke.

The Met Office says there is a 90% probability of its Heat-Health criteria being met on the Island between 8am today (Thursday) and 9pm tomorrow (Friday).

One Isle of Wight Radio listener is reporting temperatures of 36°C in Carisbrooke this afternoon (Thursday).

The temperature was recorded at 12.30pm today.

Islanders are being told to look out for others during the heatwave, including older people, young children, babies and those with underlying health conditions.

The Met Office says to close curtains on rooms that face the sun to keep indoor spaces cooler and remember it may be cooler outdoors than indoors.

Plenty of fluids should be consumed.

Advice on how to reduce the risk can be obtained from the Heatwave Plan for England page, from your doctor or local chemist, or ring NHS 111.
