Driver Escapes Serious Injury After Car Overturns On Ryde Road

A driver has escaped serious injury after their car overturned and came to rest on top of a hedge on Bullen Road in Ryde this morning (Monday).

Emergency services were called to the scene near Pondwell after a blue Mitsubishi Shogun rolled onto its roof in difficult driving conditions on what is understood to be an ungritted stretch of road.

Fire crews from Ryde and Sandown assisted the driver from the vehicle, with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service providing care at the scene.

No serious injuries have been reported at this stage.

Police closed the road in both directions while the incident was dealt with and the vehicle recovered - we are awaiting an update on the situation.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and to take extra care on Island roads due to the treacherous conditions.
