Model Laura Pahomova Falls From Hotel Balcony

Thu, 04 October 2012 8:20AM

A young model fell to her death from an apartment balcony at a hotel being used by delegates attending the Labour party conference.

The 23-year-old, who has been named in reports as Latvian model Laura Pahomova, plunged nine floors to her death at the Light Boutique Aparthotel in Manchester.

A number of people in the city for the party conference had been staying at the hotel complex, where the model is thought to have rented an apartment.

She apparently fell from one balcony onto another nine floors below and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have launched an investigation into the tragedy, which happened on Sunday morning, but said they are not treating the death as suspicious.

The hotel has 55 serviced apartments on its upper floors as well as some penthouse accommodation.

Labour delegate Dina Livingston told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I was in my room having a nap when the police knocked on my door. They said a woman had fallen on to a balcony and died.

"I think there were unsure whether it was an accident or not and were asking all the guests what they had seen. It's harrowing for someone to lose their life like this."

Ms Pahomova reportedly came to the UK from Latvia several years ago to study and live in Blackburn.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "On September 30 at 11.40am emergency services were called to a block of flats in Joiner Street, Piccadilly Gardens, following reports a woman had fallen from her balcony.

"Officers attended and found a 23-year-old woman had fallen from a balcony several floors up and landed on another balcony nine floors below.

"She suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the death."
