Newcastle came from behind to draw 1-1 in their Europa League play-off match against Greek side Atromitos.
A great free-kick from Ryan Taylor means his side returned to Tyneside knowing a victory of any description, or even a 0-0 draw, will send them through to the group stage.
Taylor scored in first-half injury time to equalise after Denis Epstein's goal in the 24th minute.
It was an ordinary opening, 45 minutes after which Newcastle would have thought a draw was not going to be the worst result.
With the weekend's match against Chelsea in his mind, manager Alan Pardew handed striker Adam Campbell his debut.
A late appearance as a substitute made him the club's youngest European debutant at 17 years and 236 days - 64 days younger than Andy Carroll.
