A below-par Celtic got their defence of the Scottish Premier League title off to a winning start thanks to a 79th-minute goal from Kris Commons against Aberdeen.
Celtic skipper Scott Brown and James Forrest both failed fitness tests before the game at Parkhead
The league championship flag was unfurled ahead of the match, but the title holders struggled to make a decisive breakthrough.
The goal finally came late in the second half after a mistake from Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield, who saw a shot from Commons to the near post slide through his grasp and into the net.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon was happy to come away with all three points but admitted his side were not on top form.
"You never know but we looked a bit leggy today," he said.
"I'm really pleased with the win because these opening games can be unpredictable. We controlled the majority of the game. We lacked a bit going forward at times and we got a bit of luck with the goal."
Celtic now prepare to build on their 2-1 first-leg lead against HJK Helsinki in their Champions League third qualifying round tie on Wednesday.
