EURO 2012: Czech Republic Beat Greece

Tue, 12 June 2012 7:21PM

Czech Republic have kept their hopes alive of making the quarter finals of Euro 2012 by beating Greece 2-1 in Wroclaw.

Two goals inside the first six minutes from Petr Jiracek and Vaclav Pilar gave Czech Republic a commanding lead.

Greece thought they had got a goal back when Giorgos Fotakis headed in from close range.

But the goal was controversially ruled offside despite replays showing he was level.

Greece did finally get a goal in the 53rd minute when Fanis Gekas capitalised on a defensive mix up between Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech and Tomas Sivok.

The defeat leaves the Greeks needing victory against Russia to stand a chance of progressing, while the Czechs will face co-hosts Poland.
