DOUBLE WIN FOR RAIDERS
Tuesday, February 2nd 2010 16:08
The Wightlink Raiders made it three wins in a row with a double victory over the Chelmsford Chieftains this weekend.
They vanquished any lingering bad memories from their previous meeting with the Essex side, an 8-1 defeat last November.
The sides met at Ryde Arena on Saturday, and the Raiders wasted no time in taking the lead. Captain, Danny Hughes, scored within the first eleven minutes.
Further goals from Jeremy Cornish, Luke Reynolds and a brace from Alex Murray took the Raiders to a commanding 5-1 victory in front of their home fans.

Sunday's away game proved to be far more dramatic.
Stung by their defeat the previous day, Chelmsford made a barnstorming start, racing into a 3-0 lead before Raiders player-coach Cornish pulled one back.
That sparked a revival from the Islanders. Third period goals from Dan Scott and Danny Hughes levelled the scores at 3-3, before Stewart Tait completed a remarkable turnaround with less than four minutes left.

The double win gives the Raiders their first four-point weekend since September, and moves them one point behind fifth placed Oxford in the English National League.
The team aim to extend their winning run to four games next Saturday, when they travel to third placed Bracknell Hornets.
