Red Arrows Grounded: Fears Over Cowes Week Display

Thursday, July 29th 2010 13:58

The Red Arrows on display during Cowes Week 2009

The famous Red Arrows display during Cowes week may not happen after problems with the £5million Hawk jets.

The Red Arrows display team was grounded yesterday (Wednesday) over a faulty ejector seat. Engineers found the problem during inspections at RAF Valley.

The team is due to perform on August 6th ahead of the fireworks display.

In a statement to Isle of Wight Radio a spokesperson from the RAF said,

"All T1 Hawk aircraft are currently being checked as a precautionary measure. This includes the aircraft used by the Red Arrows display team. The issue is with the Martin-Baker Mk10B ejection seat. Safety of our aircrews is of paramount importance.

It is still too early to say whether this investigation will affect the Red Arrows display programme".
