Last year's awards were a huge success and once again this year with the support of Mountjoy Building and Maintenance we'll be holding The People's People Awards on Friday 19th September at Cowes Yacht Haven.

Do you know someone who deserves to be recognised for their commitment to their family, their neighbours, their community, someone who has gone that extra mile, coped with adversity or generally achieved something worthy of recognition?
This is your opportunity to help reward these very special in our community.
This year's categories include:-
CHARITY FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR
This award is for anyone who during the course of the last 12 months has worked tirelessly for a charity either locally or nationally. Or it could be for someone who has, through sponsorship, earned a lot of money or raised the profile for their chosen charity/organisation.
COURAGEOUS CHILD AWARD
with Wightlink
This award is open to all children up to the age of 16. It could be a child that has bravely battled an illness or lost a loved one. They may’ve been involved in an accident themselves or been involved emotionally with a terrible situation or are bravely battling through rehabilitation.
OUTSTANDING ACT OF BRAVERY
This could be someone who has put themselves in danger to save others. They could be a member of the general public or someone who works for an emergency service who has gone beyond the call of duty. Anyone who has a disability or a difficult situation and are striving to overcome it.
CARER OF THE YEAR AWARD
with Two Counties Community Care Ltd.
This is open to anyone who works in a care environment or someone who delivers care on a daily basis to a member of their family or a friend. It could be a child that looks after one or both of their parents or even their brother or sister. It could be someone who without having to, helps with the shopping, cleaning and other domestic chores.
CUSTOMER SERVICE OF THE YEAR
You may have received exceptional levels of customer service from anyone from an individual or a company as a whole, a business or organisation that consistently excels their customer service standards. They may’ve gone out of their way to help with your enquiry or just been friendly and approachable.
EMERGENCY SERVICE PERSON OF THE YEAR
This award is for any member of a team of an emergency service organisation, either paid or voluntary that has gone beyond the call of duty in any way or displayed extraordinary levels of bravery whilst helping others.
BEST NEIGHBOUR OF THE YEAR
Does your neighbour help your or others? They may take you shopping, help with the cleaning or in the garden. They might just be there when you need a chat and a helping hand and you want to let them know how much you appreciate them.
APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR
Do you have an apprentice who works with you or for you that is always keen to learn, always demonstrating a positive attitude to their work and is a pleasure the work with?
INSPIRATIONAL TEACHER AWARD
with Isle of Wight Council
Most people can probably think back and remember a teacher from school that really made an impression. We are this year looking for a teacher who in the past few years of your school life who has made a difference to you. A teacher from any subject, perhaps a head teacher who you think has represented your school professionally but also given their heart and soul to the job. Think about what they have taught you, how they have affected your school life and what they have meant to you.(Your nominee must have been teaching the past year).
SPORTS ACHIEVEMENT OF THE YEAR
with Sydenhams
Do you know an individual or a team that excels in sport? It could be a coach or someone who manages a team. This award could go to a team or individual in any sport at any level.
THE PEOPLE'S PERSON 2008
with Mountjoy
This Award will be specially selected by our panel of judges from all the nominations we receive this year as Isle of Wight Radio’s People's Person of the Year.

Once again this year we want to give the Island community the chance to be a part of your very own Award Ceremony.. The People's People Awards 2008.
We'd like you to vote for your 'heroes' of the Isle of Wight, give them recognition for whatever reason they may have gone that extra mile. It's a chance to salute the unsung heroes who have made a difference in our community, whether it's a courageous child, amazing carer or an outstanding act of bravery, it’s time to give that special person the acknowledgement of the island.
Our judges will look at all nominations and judge all entries received. You will be notified if you are short listed and through to the final nominations and are coming to the awards ceremony on Friday 19th September.
