Ini Kamoze Here Comes The HotstepperHeather McCallum
Heather McCallum is the new sound of afternoons on Isle of Wight Radio, where she brings a new young, fun, fresh and above all local sound between 2 and 7.
We wanted to find out a bit more about her, so we dispatched the web team to ask her the questions you want the answers to... and they came back a little bit exhausted - she has far too much energy!
At 26, she has lived on the Island her entire life, hailing from Niton (where she still lives with her pet fish Francis) - she earned a degree in music technology which she enjoys putting to good use with her fellow band members of Hugo Frusslinky - currently getting rave reviews for their style of sound.
All this is a far cry from Heather's first musical purchase, the self titled Kylie Minogue album on cassette when she was just six. Heather admits she used to dance around the house to Locomotion, and is relieved there is no video evidence of her entry in a school talent show where she recreated Kylie's dance routine - not with great success... Her first CD showed something of a slight change in musical direction - Nirvana's Nevermind.
Heather loves the Island music scene, especially now with the Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival bringing a great opportunity for Island acts to perform in front of large crowd, giving them an experience they'll never forget.
Favourite places on the Island? For a Niton girl it had to be the back of the Wight, and a lovely drive along the Military Road, eventually winding up near Carisbrooke Castle, looking across the fields to the castle, thinking she was back in a fairy land (did we mention she was a bit crazy?)
Listen to Heather between 2 and 7, Monday to Friday, only on Isle of Wight Radio!
Thursday Film Club
Every Thursday, Heather runs through some of the latest film releases. She would love you to get involved! Is there a film you have seen recently that you think cannot be missed? Or maybe it was the worst thing you have ever seen and you feel like you have to warn us about it!!
Please feel free to tell us about your all time favourite film and why you love it so much! And Heather will read them out on Thursday afternoons, the more suggestions the merrier!
