Isle of Wight Walking Festival 2008
May has become ‘walking month’ on the Isle of Wight and this year is no exception with the return of the Walking Festival which this year is set to be bigger and better than ever before. IOW Radio will be supporting the event once again and as media partner will be publicising the walks daily throughout the two weeks of the festival. They’re also threatening to send one or two male members of the team on the Speed Dating Walk so single ladies beware!
IOW Radio will also be a main supporter of the Island’s biggest annual charity event Walk the Wight which grows in size every year and is well on course for another record breaking year.
Andy Shier has taken part in Walk the Wight for a number of years and is planning on giving it a go again on May 18th. He has some advice for those planning to do the full distance.
“Last year was a real challenge in that rain but was still great fun and there’s nothing quite like the feeling of setting off from Bembridge early on a Sunday morning with hundreds of other Islanders. My advice to those planning on doing all 26.5 miles is to do some training. If you’re the sort of person whose only exercise is walking from the house to the car you really will struggle to walk that sort of distance. If the stamina side doesn’t get you the blisters certainly will! Good footwear is essential but if you’re fit and healthy and have good foot protection on you’ll love the challenge the walk brings. And the feeling of strolling across the finishing line is brilliant.”
IOW Radio is sponsoring the medals this year and will once again broadcast live on the day.
Walk the Wight is the 250th walk of the Walking Festival and you can find more information at Visit The web site
