Three Rescued From Capsized Catamaran

Three Rescued From Capsized Catamaran
By Tue, 10 April 2012 10:33AM

Three people have been rescued from an upturned catamaran off Sandown.

Sandown & Shanklin Independent lifeboat was paged by Solent Coastguard on Sunday at 15.38 following two 999 calls that people had made to say they could see an upside down sailing catamaran  ¾ of a mile off shore in Sandown.

The lifeboat was launched and reached the catamaran to find three people on board.

Mark Birch said, "We tried several times to get the boat upright but found the hulls had filled with water making it very difficult, we eventually got the sail down and got it upright and escorted it back in to the shore to Yaverland where the Bembridge coastguard team took over."
