Sailing Club Condemns Offshore Wind Farm
By Emily Wells Wed, 11 April 2012 1:43PM

The Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes has reportedly written to hundreds of sailing clubs urging them to challenge plans for a off-shore wind farm off the South Coast.

Energy company Eneco has the rights to develop the area off the west coast of the Island and wants to build a wind farm of between 150 and 250 wind turbines.

The plans are currently under going public consultation and the Royal Yacht Squadron is directing people on it's website to a site called Challenge Navitus Wind Farm.

The Sailing club is concerned that the wind farm could ruin sailing from the South West to the Isle of Wight.

Speaking to the Daily Mail Chris Mason from the Royal Yacht Squadron said the Wind Farm was "Definitely a hazard and definitely a problem for sailors".
