Homeowners on the Isle of Wight won't be affected by hose pipe bans due to be announced tomorrow.
Two unusually dry winters have brought about drought conditions and Seven firms in south-east and eastern England are imposing the bans.
But Southern Water has informed Isle of Wight Radio that the situation here is not as severe and there are no current plans to introduce restrictions.
The company is urging it's customers not to waste water though.
Water Strategy Manager Meyrick Gough said: “Thanks to improvements made to our supply network, which enables us to move water from areas with a surplus to those with a shortage, our lowest ever leakage level, the ongoing installation of 500,000 water meters and customers being more water efficient, we are in a better position than we would have been in these circumstances in previous years.
"We hope to avoid bringing in restrictions in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. But if the demand for water rises as the weather gets hotter we may have to take such measures.
"Our customers have always helped us to reduce demand; during the summer of 2006, when we were last in drought, they helped us save 43 million litres of water a day - and their support is greatly appreciated. While firmly playing our part in managing supplies, we will continue to offer customers advice on how they can avoid wasting water in the garden and the home, as part of our Save Water, Save Energy, Save Money campaign."
