Don't Waste Drugs, Urges Campaign
By Lucy Morgan Mon, 20 February 2012 11:18AM

A campaign's being launched today to try to reduce the stockpile of unused medicines and drugs on the Isle of Wight.

GPs and pharmacists are urging patients to consider their prescriptions and only order what they need. They're calling for unused and unwanted medicines to be returned to a pharmacy so they can be disposed of and they're reminding patients to take prescription drugs into hospital with them so the NHS doesn't have to issue more.

Across the South Central region, from Milton Keynes to the Island and including Southampton and Portsmouth, unused prescriptions add up to a spend of £20 million. That's enough to fund 785 nurses or 5393 hip replacements. A campaign will be launched at Siddys Chemists on Newport High Street this luncthime.
