"Asphalt Plant Will Make Seaweed Smell Like Chanel No5" Isle of Wight Radio has highlighted the section in red where the asphalt plant is planned
By Wed, 16 May 2012 9:15AM

People living in East Cowes say they're outraged at not being consulted on plans for an Asphalt Plant on the banks of the River Medina.

Isle of Wight Radio revealed the plans had been submitted to Isle of Wight Council last month - http://www.iwradio.co.uk/articles/huge-asphalt-plant-planned-for-cowes

Around 100 people met with members of East Cowes Town Council last night (Tuesday). At the same time residents in Northwood were also having a similar meeting.

One of the councillors, Mr Robert Hooper, said the smell from the proposed plant would make the current smell from the seaweed in the town like Chanel no5 in comparison.

East Cowes Town Council is calling on the planning decision to be deferred by two months. Members are also urging Isle of Wight Council to ask Eurovia Roadstone to pay for an independent environmental assessment into the impact of the plant.

Eurovia Roadstone, which is behind the application is part of Vinci Ringway; one of two companies bidding for the roads Private Finance Initiative (PFI).

A Facebook group called Residents Against Asphalt has also been established.
