A motorist reportedly threw curry at a bus driver last week, covering her and the vehicle's controls in sauce.
A number two Southern Vectis bus was travelling along Great Preston Road, Ryde, last Tuesday, when someone travelling in a passing car threw a plastic container containing curry through the driver’s window.
The 50-year-old driver and the bus controls were covered in curry sauce but the woman was not injured.
The incident occurred shortly before midday and police said it could have caused a road traffic collision.
Investigating officer PC Al Spence said: "There were around 30 people on the bus at the time so some of them may have seen what happened.
"The passing vehicle was described as a red car.
"The actions of someone in this vehicle were reckless and could have led to a road traffic collision because of the shock and distraction it caused to the bus driver."
Witnesses or anyone with information about the identity of the people travelling in the car are asked to contact PC Al Spence at Newport Police Station by phoning 101.
Information can be given anonymously by phoning the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
