A woman in her late 40s has died after her car fell off cliffs at Brook on Tuesday night.

As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, a large number of police officers were called to an area west of Compton Chine Farm, on the Military Road at around 6:40pm.

Firecrews and the coastguard helicopter also attended.

The woman, from Dorset, died at the scene and police said that no-one else was in the car at the time.

It is understood no-one else was involved in the incident.

The Military Road, between Gate Lane in Freshwater and Hulverstone Lane in Brook was closed and remains closed as police officers carry out a thorough investigation of the scene.

Enquiries into the exact circumstances of the incident are ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Newport CID on 101, or the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800  555 111.
