Sewer to be replaced

Sewer to be replaced
By Matt White Tue, 09 October 2012 1:05PM

Work to replace a sewer in Cowes will begin in November.

Southern Water has announced plans to carry out essential works on a main sewer that runs under the River Medina from Medina Road to the Esplanade.

Clancy Docwra will install a new 500mm-diameter pipe.

The work is part of Southern Water's £10.5 million programme of works to rehabilitate and replace approximately 30km of sewers across the South East.

Southern Water Project Manager John Hurley said: "We would like to thank people in advance for their understanding and patience while this important work is carried out.

"Our contractor will carry out the work as quickly and efficiently as possible, while ensuring residents and businesses are kept informed.

"There may be some short-term disruption while the sewer replacement is under way but there will be long-term benefits for the community as the risk of sewer bursts will be reduced."

The work is expected to complete by the end of March 2013.
