Slight rise in Island unemployment

By Emma Philo Wed, 12 September 2012 12:09PM

Figures released on Wednesday morning showed a slight increase in the number of people claiming unemployment benefits on the Isle of Wight.

In July, there were 2,937 claimants on the Island. The number rose to 2,959 in August, according to the Office of National Statistics, although the figures are not seasonally adjusted.

The numbers represent a rate of 3.5% of Islanders between the ages of 16 and 64 who are claiming jobseeker allowance.
