A water main has burst in Newport this afternoon (Wednesday) - forcing the closure of Staplers Road until tomorrow.
Isle of Wight Radio understands the main burst on Staplers Road at 3:40pm, and Southern Water contractors have now closed the road, with diversions via Halberry Lane.
On Wednesday afternoon, Isle of Wight Radio listeners aid traffic into Newport was backed up to Osborne House, East Cowes, while Southern Vectis has diverted all of its route 9 services via Halberry Lane.
In a statement, Southern Water said it had received around 20 calls from customers who had lost their water supplies. The company has apologised for any inconvenience
