Households Warned To Prepare For Council Tax Rise

By Isle of Wight Radio Reporter Wed, 05 September 2012 11:23AM

Households on the Isle of Wight are set to be hit with a 2.5% increase in council tax from next April.

The Conservative run local authority is planning the hike after two years of freezing rates.

It means those living in an average band D property will have to find around £37 more a year or £3 a month.

It could rise even more once parish council and police precepts are added.

Leader of the council David Pugh has justified the rise. He told Isle of Wight Radio, "I think it's worth noting that the freeze for two years does, because of inflation, mean there's actually been a decrease in terms of the real value of that. This is a modest increase and it's something we do need to do so we can continue to provide services to the people of the Isle of Wight."
