Ryde Water Supplies Restored

By Lucy Morgan Sun, 02 September 2012 9:32PM

Ryde's water supply was restored at 8pm on Sunday, around twelve hours after a burst main left thousands of homes in the area with little or no water.

Southern Water confirmed engineers had fixed a burst main in the Swanmore Road area, having issued apologies for the inconvenience caused.

A twelve-inch pipe burst leaving many homes with any water supplies and others as far afield as Binstead, with very low pressure.

Ratcliffe Avenue resident Mr McDonald contacted Isle of Wight Radio to say he had brown water coming out of his taps. There were unconfirmed reports that emergency supplies were being handed out in Swanmore Road.

At 6:35pm, Southern Water posted "We are now recharging the water main. This will allow customer supplies to be gradually restored. During this period, discolouration and low pressure may be experienced. Please be assured that this water is safe to drink, and will return to normal in due course."
